It's handy to know what to expect before you arrive

If you’ve ever stayed at Butlin’s or have a trip booked soon, you will know the accommodation can vary greatly both in price and what you get for your money.

It’s one of the most asked questions around Butlin’s resorts - what’s included in your flat and what do you need to take with you?

I’ve just come back from a term-time three night break at the Skegness resort, where I stayed with my partner and two young boys (six and ten) in a Fairground Apartment.

As the name suggests, these are right next to the Fairground at one end of the resort and are in the 'higher end' of available accommodation. They have a small-town America, colonial vibe to them on first glance and there are three floors in each block. You might think this means there’s a lot of noise - but due to the fact that your neighbour's front door leads to the flat above, it means you actually don’t have a direct wall-to-wall neighbour.

There is no noise from the fairground either, as it doesn’t operate late at night and even in the day is far enough away to not be disturbing.

The Fairground apartments have a fun edge to them. The mirror in the hallway is a wiggly one, which provided lots of giggle for my two kids. There’s also fun touches like fairground artwork and a star light in the bathroom.

In terms of bedrooms - the master bedroom was off the entrance hall in our flat and had a double bed with an illuminated dressing table. The other bedroom had two single beds and was off the living area. Every room - except the bathroom - has a TV. The living and dining area has double doors that open to overlook a communal grass area at the back of the flats (or directly onto it if you're on the ground floor). There’s no balcony in these flats, unlike some of the other Butlin’s accommodation.

In the kitchen you’ve got an oven, hob, microwave, toaster and kettle. Mugs, tumblers and wine glasses are provided as is cutlery and a small welcome package of a tea towel, sponge and washing up liquid. The fridge is an under the counter one, with a small freezer section. There’s no dishwasher in this accommodation. There's also free WiFi, an iron and ironing board and a hairdryer.

The dining table is quite compact, but fine for quick family meals. I am pretty sure most people at Butlin’s take advantage of the huge variety of eat-out options anyway.

In the bathroom, plenty of towels were provided for use in the shower and there's a heated towel rail. The towels were replenished by housekeeping halfway through our break. There’s also a handy clothes airer for drying off swimming costumes and the like.

In terms of accessibility, there are ground floor options, but we were on the first floor, which involved climbing a set of external stairs to get to our front door.

The resort website said the Fairground Apartments were around a 7-minute walk from the Premium Dining locations (The Deck and Yacht Club). We found the walk was actually much shorter than this, even with hungry children in tow…

Overall, the Fairground Apartments provide a quiet and comfortable base for your stay at Butlin’s, with everything you need to hand.
